The new Culture of Paying

Today, thanks to my reflect:ed subscribers, we made it back to the front page of tinyletter.com – the service that I am using to send this newsletter out.

The interesting thing is that reflect:ed is the only subscription based newsletter amongst the 15 “hot” newsletters which shows two things. One is that I am apparently cutting edge and two that a paid newsletter can be as successful as a free one.

So let’s talk a bit about the new culture of paying on the internet.

Stop – Hammer Time! A Story of Consumer Expectations.

When I turned on my PC today I got suprised by a ton of new followers on Twitter and a massive retweet wave of Mashable’s post on how Starbucks is planning to monetize on their free WiFi.

First, I thought the old Guy Kawasaki rule would apply: Tweet about Twitter or other things people care about and you get retweets. But scanning through the tweets I finally found the real source: MC Hammer!

Back to 16th Century Teaching!

This morning I read a very interesting article in the NY Times.

Very encouraging for the classic one-on-one private teacher / tutor, right? I will get back to this point of the article later because there is more to talk about.
