Skype 4.0 for Windows

As I mention Skype in most about every post about online teaching, I just wanted to mention that the new Skype Version 4.0 has been released for Windows.

What are the new features? Most important for me, from the online teacher view, are:

  • Best-ever sound
    Calls are crystal clear and even more reliable. Plus our ‘smart help’ picks up any sound issues and helps you fix them during a call.
  • Bigger video
    Feel like you’re talking face-to-face with great sound and picture. Fill your screen with the faces you love.

Other features are a new look, of course, the possibility to jugglebetween conversations and I think some others they did not mention yet.

I am looking forward to try it out with my students and I will write a review about my experiences with the brand new Skype, of course.

    Ok, first update at Skype 4.0. Installed it on my two PCs. On one it works, on the other one (a Asus EEE) it doesn’t. I even get notifications of people I never added on Skype. But only in the 4.0 version. In the old version, everything is “normal”.
    So I switched back to it.
    The voice quality in 4.0 is really good, though.

    4.0 is absolutely horrible. Most folks I know who “upgraded” went back to 3.8 shortly thereafter. Even on Skype’s website, there are many many comments to the 4.0 release post saying the same thing – 4.0 is horrible.

    Really. Well, I did not give it a second try yet. Pitty, the voice quality was really good. Works on my PC though…

    Skype’s new look is great if it is all you’re using, like for buisness, but some people who use it while multitasking, the new look is absolutely horrid.
