The idea for this quick poll comes from Darien Brown of YongoPal.
Based on the vivid discussion on Vikrama Dhiman’s post on the seven reasons why online education might never take off, Darien suggested that I should poll the teachers amongst my readers on which platforms / services they have set up a teacher account.

Being on language teaching platforms from the early beginnings I can confirm Darien’s feeling at least from the group I know.
I met the same people basically everywhere. Either I was the first to sign up for a new platform in 2008 and they followed or there were already some familiar faces signed up. In the end it was always basically the same group of teachers “hanging around”.
Nevertheless, the most active platforms were Myngle and eduFire mostly because of the promotional offer they were offering like the Myngle Boost and the eduFire SuperPass. It was interesting to see how loyalty quickly changed when the other platform was offering a better deal for teachers or when a platform seemed to attract more students. It inspired me to the much discussed blog post I wrote back in April 2009 titled “Online Teachers – Mercenaries of Education” and I think it is still valid today.
Remember, this is no judgement of morality or whatsoever. It is an economic necessity and again, if a platform cannot deliver students to teach it’s broken.
Hence, coming to the poll after this introduction: if you are an online teacher please take a short moment to take this quick survey. Of course, I will publish the result but I’d say we need at least 20 teachers to take part. Therefore, please forward this poll to your colleagues. Thanks a lot!
