Great news reached me today as MindSnacks, one of my favorite startups in education 2.0, announced its $1.2 million funding round.
Not surprisingly, one of the investors is Dave McClure’s 500 Startups fund which already put money in education startups like Udemy, YongoPal and InternMatch. He is building up a nice portfolio of education 2.0 startups.
Quoting Jesse Picard, co-founder and CEO from the press release
“Our goal is to close the gap in entertainment value that exists between games and education. Current self-study options are completely out of sync with how people consume media today. There is pent up demand for entertaining educational products that are available in bite-size chunks. MindSnacks fills that need.”
There are currently two language learning apps available on the iTunes store, Spanish and French and with the new funding more will be coming coming soon.
I will also have an interview with the guys about what’s ahead for the company on Monday, so stay tuned.
