You have a student who wants to learn English with you. Normally, you would go to your car, drive through the town, get into traffic jams, arrive too late, spent money on fuel, loose time on the way…

Now imagine this. You have a student who wants to learn English with you. You get yourself a fresh coffee, go to your PC, login to the virtual classroom, call your student via Skype and you start your lesson.

Wouldn’t it be great?… But why would?… It IS great!

Internet has changed our lifestyle in so many ways over the last decade. Nowadays, for most of us it is a vital part of our daily life.

Now it can change the way you teach, the way you learn and the way you earn your living.

Even two years ago, this was still sci-fi but with the developement of high speed internet access and great software like Skype you have all at hand what you need to take your offline teaching business online. That’ll  mean you can earn your money online!

In the middle of 2008 I had to take a decision. It was obvious that the financial crisis in the US would sooner or later hit us here in Europe. Recession would mean that it could become much harder to find customers in the region of France I am living in. At that time nearly 90% of my clients were offline clients.

With this emerging scenario I decided to take my business online. I thought this way I may have the chance to find clients in other countries which are not that hardly effected by the financial crisis.

Now, six month later, I have to say it was one of my best decisions so far. Over 90% of my clients are now online clients from around the globe. And the trend I can see in the e-learning sector seems to be opposite to the trend of the economy. Maybe because of the fear to lose their jobs people are willing to further invest in their skills  or simply because classic education has become so expensive over the years.

E-learning will be one of the big things in 2009 and the coming years. New online platforms like Myngle.com, EduFire.com, WiZiQ.com, Italki.comLearnissimo.com and Linkua.com where you can offer your teaching and find students are emerging every month.

Thanks to open source all the software you need is available for free, so it needs only a minimum investment to start to teach online and earn money.

You want to know how? Then make sure to come back as soon as possible. I will show you how.

  • Hi Frank,
group classes will be a big thing this year, I think. They are social and, very important in this time of financial difficulties, they are affordable.
Skype is a good point. Skype Prime enables you to take money per minute or per call. Works with language lessons, too.
  • I also have started to use skype. My guess is that with social media as important as it is to people, they may want to learn with more people to allow the education to also be a social involvement. I see a couple of language sites already doing this.
