Language learning community Hello-Hello launched its four courses for English, German, Italian and Portuguese learners on the iPad. The apps cost $9.99 USD each and consist of 30 conversational lessons per language.
Together with Babbel Hello-Hello is the only language learning community that offers native applications for Apple products.

Which is kind of astonishing as both launches are apparently a great success. Soon after Babbel launched its mobile learning applications on the iPhone they ranked in the top ten on the iTunes Store in many countries. The Spanish course of Hello-Hello that took part in the launch of the iPad store not only became one of the favourites of the Apple team but also ranked #2 in the education category soon after the launch of the iPad.
Both companies offer their applications as paid versions, Babbel’s vocabulary trainer is sold for $7.99 and Hello-Hello’s language courses for $9.99. Both applications work also as stand alone, so without connection to the cloud via 3G or WiFi which is of course necessary to really offer the possibility to learn anywhere anytime.
Both products are developed with the input and help of education professionals and based on the newest teaching / learning methods.
I think you can see a pattern and I also think that Apple is the ideal platform for language learning. Apple trained its clients that quality has a price, that all products sold on the iTunes / iPad store work and hence you can trust them. Also, the entry barrier to have an Apple product is defined by the price and therefore you can already expect a certain customer group in general pre-selected by the price tag. Apple users are simply trained on opening their wallet which makes it so much easier for companies like Hello-Hello and Babbel.
