First Look At… – lenguajero.com

On my daily surf through the web I came across this fairly new language learning community called lenguajero.com. What immediately caught my eye is the fact that they “only” offer language exchange between Spanish and English speakers. That’s what I call targeted.

Reading a bit through the blog I learned that the site was developed by just two people and the design cost only about $1000. That’s what I call boot strapped!

Of course I contacted them on Twitter to learn more about their project. And August Flanagan, one of the two Co-Founders wrote back to me very quickly.

Let me quote some parts of his email for you:

[...] Lenguajero is a social network for Spanish speaking English learners, and English speaking Spanish learners.  Our members can connect for online conversation exchanges using an embedded VOIP app developed by tokbox.com.

In addition to conversation exchanges we have a writing club where members can write about a variety of different topics (we post a new topic every day or two).  Members write in the language they are learning and then receive feedback and corrections for other members of our community. [...]

[...] Lenguajero has quite an interesting story behind it.  We are a team of two (Natalie Gordon, my partner, was previously a software developer at Amazon.com, and I am coming from a research background in biochemistry and molecular biology), and have been traveling around Latin America for the last 10 months following our dream of learning Spanish.  About 4 months into the trip we came up with the idea for the site, and have been working on it part time from Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Mexico.  We are very passionate about helping independent language learners, and, because of our own experiences, have a specific passion for helping Spanish and English learners connect with one another.  [...]

I think this sounds very promising. If founders are passionate about the product they are launching the biggest part is already done.

Looking forward to learn more about Lenguajero and of course, I will keep you updated.

Lenguajero is one of the most
visited sites if you are trying to learn Spanish language quickly. Learning Spanish
is not just easy for some others, you have to be dedicated enough to know what
are the basic of being a bilingual to learn Spanish language. I am always
looking forward for the next big thing that Lenguajero would provide on their site.
