Though the title of the post might tell you something different, Learnissimo.com is not new on the market. They started their service around the same time as Myngle and eduFire, so about two years ago.
First it was based on a marketplace model, teachers set their own prices and times. But from the beginning on there were strict rules for the teachers about lesson cancellations, missing a class, coming too late etc. You can say it was a mix between a classic school model and a freelancer marketplace.
Now Learnissimo seems to have finally chosen which way they want to go.

[...] Learnissimo is becoming a true on-line academy.
Learnissimo has a fixed price structure now. 30 minutes cost 12 Euro and there are different packages with discounts available. The teachers are chosen by Learnissimo.
In order to guarantee you the best teachers, we carry out a selection process, based on linguistic tests (grammar, vocabulary, conjugation), on-line training of learning methods and validation of the teacher’s video presentation by our team. The standard of instruction is further rated by regular student feedback.

To become a Learnissimo teacher, you must first of all:
- Be perfectly competent in the language which you wish to teach
- Have a lot of free time in order to provide a wide range of times for your students to reserve lessons with you
- Like teaching, be friendly, pleasant, and above all punctual
The teacher payment is a fixed rate of 7,50 Euro per 30 minutes.
Ok, classic school system. The teachers are employed by Learnissimo. No, they are not.
IMPORTANT REMARK: you are in no case an employee of the Learnissimo company. Learnissimo acts as a business provider by connecting teachers and students and by supplying the Internet tools necessary for the proper running of the lessons.
Great for the students, great for Learnissimo, dodgy for the teacher. But this is just my point of view as edupreneur. I know from other platforms that there is a group of online teachers who actually appreciate a system like this. I will write my thoughts on this in an other post, otherwise I get sidetracked.
Anyway, the positive points about a system like this are:
- no price dumping like on other platforms
- free choice for the students
- quality control
- security for the students
Strong reasons for students to book a course with Learnissimo. Therefore Learnissimo is clearly a student centered approach. The prices are affordable and you can get a discount of up to 20% when buying a package. As a student you are also able to chose different teachers, you are not limited to one, which is nice. And the student has total control if a teacher does not suit his / her needs
If your teacher doesn’t suit you, you can interrupt the lesson at any moment and only pay the elapsed time. Just click on “Interrupt the lesson now” in your classroom. If your teacher is late or absent from one of your lessons, don’t click on “Interrupt the lesson now”, because Learnissimo detects automatically that your teacher did not log in to the classroom, and you will get all your credits back automatically.
Clear rules. Hence if you are not keen about the entrepreneurial part of teaching online Learnissimo might be an option for you. If you are a student, Learnissimo is definitely worth a look as it is made for you.
