Babbel.com launched its first Premium Course

The Berlin based Babbel.com just launched its first Premium Course about a week ago. It is called “Spanisch – der leichte Einstieg (Spanish – the easy Start)” and based on the course “Spanisch ganz einfach in 20 Tagen” from Christof Kehr published by Hueber.

Babbel describes itself as the language platform for

Playful and Efficient Learning
At Babbel you can learn useful vocabulary with a fun and intuitive multimedia trainer that uses images and real voices.

A sophisticated refresher tool keeps track of your progress and lets you know what, and when, you need to review.

You can learn on your own or with the help of the 250.000 member strong community. Therefore the main competitors are of course Livemocha.com and busuu.com.

Babbel offers a nice and clean interface. Even if the site might need some time to load when you enter it you won’t have annoying waiting times during the vocabulary practice.

Let’s have a closer look on the premium course. The course itself consists of 20 lessons with several exercises in each lesson. For the first lesson I needed around 30 minutes which is quite nice. It’s not too much so you can fit it into your busy schedule. Or just do half of it and the second part later. The system will remember where you left.

The exercises are all looking nice and are easy to handle. Different types of exercises make the experience even more interesting.

I am trying to do one lesson of the Spanish Premium Course per day right now. So lets see, if I am able to speak Spanish at the end of this month :) .

All in all I have a very good impression of Babbel and I am sure that I will post a detailed review about this company in my hometown, soon.

Pete I don't understand your complaints. Features don't need to be new or cool so much as they need to be effective. In addition, how does the user interface detract from your experience?
  • Hi Pete,
thanks for joining and bringing in the customers point of view. I finished the second lesson yesterday evening and I still have to say that I like it.

But being a teacher I might see it from a wrong perspective. So could you please explain your issues more detailed?

I don´t understand your positive review at all. First of all the exercises are not new or cool, it´s not userfriendly and it´s way too expensive. stupid is who pays for that!
  • KALXANDR
And how can you know that the exercises are not new are cool if you were not so "stupid" to pay for them?
  • pete
how do you know I didn´t pay for it? but regretted it as soon as I saw what I got for it ... and will ask for my money back ;-)

I can remember that I stumbled over Babbel last year. Was still a closed beta then. Time flies and those guys are on a good way, I think.
